1. Opting Out

November 26, 2012 by June David

Most buyers and borrowers receive solicitations from lenders whenever a credit report is run by a lender or a mortgage broker when applying for a loan. The reason this happens is the credit agencies, such as Equifax, Experian, and Transunion actually sell your names and addresses to lenders and brokers.

In order to prevent this from happening, you must be proactive by going to a website called www.optoutprescreen.com.

When you reach this website, click the blue label at the bottom of the page which says “Click here to opt-in or opt-out”. At the next screen, click onto Permanent OPT-OUT button. Complete the following screen with the required information and continue to finish.

Another site which is a do-it-yourself guide to stopping junk mail, e-mail, and phone calls www.obviously.com/junkmail.

This is one of the most comprehensive and useful junk mail abatement resources I have found. It offers tips for stopping junk mail both before and after it lands on your doorstep, as well as information on keeping spam and unwanted phone calls at bay. One caveat: though the majority of the information on this page is up to date, a few of the links to other sites no longer work. Most links, though will take you where they say.
